New technology series debuts

Dee U. Silverthorn, Editor-in-Chief

A new series of Staying Current articles on technology debuts in this issue of Advances. These articles are written to inform our readers about research methods in physiology so that we can intelligently answer student questions such as "What’s a microarray?" or "How do they make knockout mice?" The first article in the series is the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and is reprinted from the FASEB series Breakthroughs in Bioscience. Topics planned for upcoming issues include microarrays, genetically altered mice, patch clamping, and a primer on cladistics.

If you have a request for a particular topic or are interested in writing a Staying Current review on technology or on a physiological topic, please contact me at silverthorn{at}mail.utexas.edu
